2016 Cabernet Franc - Ramazzotti Vineyard

96 points
Double Gold Medal
San Francisco International Wine Competition

The warm, valley floor climate near downtown Geyserville, where these grapes are grown, produces a full body style wine. Elegant yet intense, fruit forward with earthy tones, velvety however silky smooth. Aromas and flavors of dark cherry, spiced raspberry, cannabis, blueberry, sage and subtle oak are rolled together to create a mouthfeel of trichome like textures. Pairs well with rich, grilled or baked food or an after dinner smoke.

Tasting Notes

It's difficult to describe a wine that is so complex. Upon tasting, one flavor will come to mind, another takes over and integrates with the first and third as the forth flavor demands attention THEN the textures join in and increase the intensity. Here's kind of what that looks like: cardamomnutmegblueberrysageredplumblueberrysativanutmegcocoaraspberrycaramel - I lost track, what were we saying? Try this before is gone!

Production Notes

Picked at the perfect time, cold soaked for 3 days, low and slow fermentation and a gentle pressing to accomplish this well-polished wine.

Winemaker Notes

Cabernet Franc is one of the 5 red Bordeaux varietals, typically used to blend and fussy to get right. Proper growing practices mitigates the green bean or bell pepper character from overtaking the overall experience.

Cooperage Notes

30% new American Oak, 55% once used French and American Oak, 15% neutral oak
