2013 Malbec - J&B Schmidt Vineyard
One of the five classic Bordeaux varietals, malbec is typically used for blending but has become a popular stand-alone. Dry Creek Valley's diverse micro-climates allow this grape to mature and develop its intense characteristics perfectly: an inky, dark purple color alludes to the deep concentration of this full-bodied wine. Aromas of lilac, Damson plum, cedar, black cherry and caramel develop similarly complex flavors. Firm tannins grip the finish as the tasting experience lasts on your palate.
225 cases crafted. Unfiltered/Unfined. Vegan
The 2013 malbec also drinks well now! I only have malbec back to 2009 and have enjoyed some recently. It’s a smoother version but still has good fruit and a soft tannin finish. I think another 5 years might be possible to enjoy a fully developed malbec with proper cellaring. 10-12 years for that style of the 2013.
